Downtown update
Friday, April 1, 2011 at 9:23AM I am starting to look into the possibility of placing water storage/infiltration beneath buildings as was suggested by the City of Auburn during reviews. It was agreed that typical foundation systems include pilings in Auburn.
I have been working with Systems group to develope a plan for the downtown area for which we have decided to focus on the NW corner of Division and SW 1st St. They plan to store and use all roof runoff in the building, so I am no longer accounting for roof runoff in this plan. Therefore, I have decided to use bioretention cells primarily for stormwater runoff from streets because I have found them to be fairly effective at removing the associated metals, oil and grease, and PAH's as well as many nutrients and coliforms through literature review.
Devices Prototype Building
Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 1:47PM PURPOSE: TO CAPTURE SUNLIGHT WITH PHOTOVOLTIC LAYER ON CURTAIN WALL.
TO CAPTURE WATER RUNOFFS
HOW: LOCATED NEXT TO THE INDUSTRIAL AREA.
THE BUILDING IS SITUATED BETWEEN TWO EXISTING WETLANDS. A CONSTRUCTED WETLAND WILL BE PLACED NEXT TO THE BUILDING TO CONNECT THE EXISTING WETLANDS IN ORDER FOR WATER RUNOFFS TO BE CAPTURED. THE WATER WILL THEN BE CLEANSE THROUGHT THE CONSTRUCTED WETLAND BEFORE RUNNING OFF TO THE MILL CREEK.

Raised bioretention with underlying storage

This a preliminary setup for a rain garden in a raised planter. Runoff from adjacent roofs would drain into the garden filtrate through and into the storage cells below. An overflow from the garden would run into the storage cells below which would also have an overflow device to existing stormwater infrastructure.
Water Field Station
Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12:55PM The Water Field Station has been progressing nicely. The program has shifted a bit from incorporating laboratories for water quality testing to more of a community location that focuses on stormwater awareness. There are still water sensors that monitor the constructed and natural wetlands. Parking has been incorporated into the site, but careful attention will be paid to drainage so the integrity of the wetland is preserved.

Devices Prototype Building
Monday, February 14, 2011 at 2:14PM The Stormwater Devices building is situated in the industrial park area serving as a filter by infilling constructed wetland around the building. This constructed wetland cleanses the stormwater or rainwater from the massive industrial buildings next to it allowing quality water flows into Mill Creek.
