Commercial Urban Agriculture Human Scale

When commercial agriculture is viewed on a personal level, it can have asurprisingly human scale to it. We are striving to choose systems that willcreate an atmosphere that enriches the quality of life for the residence ofAuburn. Components, such as the individual planters in a hydroponic system, can be arranged in such a way that while the products are growing the areascan be opened up to the public to create a garden space that enriches thecommunity. Also plant selection is a great way to allow the plants to workfor the city as well. If there are taller plants arranged near thehighways, then they can act as an attractive noise barrier for the peoplecommuting. Storm water is also an important part of the community. Once itwas viewed as a problematic issue with retention pond being needed to slowthe flow of water out of the area, but now we could use those ponds to makefish farms. This once eyesore could become wonderful park experiences thathelps to feed the agricultural goals of the area. The ponds would enliventhe community with a new form of interaction for the Auburn residence. Allowingthe people to see the vast improvements and allowing them to interact withthe systems will then further the awareness of the importance of the stepsAuburn is taking to make an environmentally conscientious place to live.
